Mundesley Minefield

During the 1939 - 45 war, most of the coastal areas of Britain were mined to help deter a German invasion.

After D Day (1944 - 1947) most of the minefields were cleared, but due to lack of accurate plans, coastal erosion and extensive cliff falls, a start was not made at Mundesley until 1953. At this time two soldiers were killed. Ten years earlier three civilians died when they strayed on to the minefield.
